I stayed at The Royal Horseguards in July 2025, returning after a memorable visit in 2013. While the staff were exceptional, helpful, and professional throughout my stay, the hotel itself is clearly showing its age and no longer justifies the $600–$800 USD per night rate.
To give credit where it’s due: I arrived early and my room wasn’t quite ready, but the front desk staff handled it beautifully—offering me a complimentary drink voucher for their bar while I waited. That small gesture set the tone for the genuinely warm hospitality I experienced from the team throughout my stay.
Unfortunately, the condition of the hotel didn’t match the level of service. My room had visible wear and tear, including peeling paint, water damage on the walls, scuffed furniture, and worn leather upholstery (photos attached). The furnishings overall felt dated and tired…well below what one would expect in 2025 at this price point. The water pressure in the shower was weak, and the elevators were very stuffy and extremely slow, which made coming and going frustrating at times.
The location is still excellent, and the building retains its architectural charm, but it’s time for a full refresh. With so many modern luxury hotels in London at similar prices, I would hold off until renovations are made.
To be clear, this review is not a reflection on the staff, who went out of their way to make guests feel welcome. The shortcomings lie with the physical condition of the hotel, which is overdue.
